Despite a lot of campaigning to VOTE through media,fm,blogs it is very sad that the people of capital city of the state i.e HYDERABAD recorded a low voting percentage.
Hyderabad district recorded 54.50 percentage of voting for the two Parliamentary constituency and 15 Assembly constituencies elections which concluded here on Thursday. In the last General elections held in 2004, the percentage was about 50.93 per cent indicating an overall increase of more than four per cent voting.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Additional Chief Electoral Officer and GHMC Commissioner S P Singh along with Hyderabad District Election Officer M T Krishna Babu said that elections were conducted peacefully without any major untoward incidents being reported from the twin cities including the sensitive Old City areas.
The percentage of voting in 15 Assembly constituencies are Musheerabad (56%), Amberpet (55%), Jubilee Hills (60%), Khairatabad (53%), Nampally (52%), Sanathnagar (49%),Malakpet (57%), Secunderabad (63 %), Karwan (48%), Goshamahal (62%), Charminar (50%), Chandrayangutta (56.11%), Yakutpura (58%), Bahadurpura (52 %) and Secunderabad Cantonment (46.22%).
The DEO said that an ex-corporator, Saleem Baig belonging to Majilis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) was arrested by the police in Riyasathnagar of Chandrayangutta constituency for reportedly preparing duplicate cards for bogus voting.
Krishna Babu said that some mischief-makers tried to damage the buttons of some candidates in about seven to eight EVMs falling under Goshamahal and other Assembly constituencies by inserting chewing gum and other material.
In some Assembly constituencies like Jubilee Hills, Khairatabad and Bahadarpura, the polling went beyond 4 pm to help voters to cast their votes as they entered into the polling station before 4 pm. On the EVMs giving trouble, Krishna Babu said that as many as 77 balloting units and about 74 Control Units were replaced because of technical problems. All these were replaced immediately.
